Accessibility
Accessibility statement
This statement covers the public website at chaptree.co.uk. It is built to meet WCAG 2.2 AA. We help councils meet their digital and data duties under Assertion 10, so this site has to meet the same bar we talk about there.
Status
We believe the website meets the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 at level AA. Every page was checked on 18 October 2026 in the ways described below. This is our own assessment, not an independent audit certificate.
What is in place
- Text alternatives on every picture, and a short caption where one helps
- Logical headings, one main landmark, and labelled navigation and notice regions
- A skip link to the content on every page
- Everything works from the keyboard, including the menu, the forms and the picture viewer, with a visible focus indicator throughout
- The picture viewer closes with Escape and returns you to where you were
- A label on every form field, the needed fields stated above each form, and error messages in plain words
- Colour contrast of at least 4.5:1 for text and 3:1 for form fields, buttons and focus indicators
- Nothing conveyed by colour alone
- Tap targets of at least 24 by 24 CSS pixels
- Pages reflow to a 320-pixel-wide screen without sideways scrolling, and still work at 200% zoom and with your own text-spacing settings
- Reduced-motion settings respected; no flashing, no autoplaying media, no time limits
- Language set to English (UK); no tracking and no pop-ups
- Jumps within a page, such as to an enquiry form, land below the fixed header rather than behind it
- Without JavaScript the menu simply shows in full and pictures display on the page
How it was checked
Automated testing with axe-core (WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 rules at levels A and AA) on every page, in the phone and desktop layouts, with the menu open and closed. Manual checks of keyboard-only use of every page, the forms and the picture viewer; reflow at 320 pixels; 200% zoom; text spacing; landmarks and headings; colour contrast of text, field borders and controls; and reduced motion. Checked in a current Chromium browser.
Limits
The photographs on the site are illustrative; the information in them is always also in the text. The site has not yet been tested by people who use assistive technology day to day, and we would welcome hearing from anyone who does. Documents we publish later will be checked before they go up.
Problems, or another format
If something does not work for you, or you need any part of this site in another format, email [email protected]. We will reply, and fix what we can.
The Clerk Assist system
The Clerk Assist system that councils sign in to, and the council websites it publishes, are covered separately: each council publishes its own accessibility statement for its own website.
Prepared 18 October 2026. Reviewed whenever the site changes.
